A man has been detained after a vehicle struck several pedestrians in Liverpool city centre on Monday evening, shortly after the conclusion of Liverpool Football Club’s Premier League victory parade. The incident occurred around 6:00 PM local time on Water Street, prompting an immediate response from emergency services and law enforcement.

According to a statement issued by Merseyside Police, officers were contacted following reports that a car had collided with multiple individuals in a busy part of the city. The vehicle came to a halt at the scene, and the driver, a male, was subsequently detained by authorities. Police confirmed that the car did not leave the location after the collision, and that their response was swift to secure the area and assist the injured.

The collision took place not long after thousands of Liverpool FC supporters had lined the streets of the city to celebrate the club’s latest Premier League title. The team had traveled through Liverpool in an open-top bus as part of a pre-planned and heavily attended parade that concluded earlier in the evening. It is currently unclear whether the incident is linked in any way to the parade itself.

Merseyside Police have described the situation as a “road traffic collision” but have not provided further details regarding the motive, if any, or whether the incident is being treated as accidental or deliberate. No information has yet been released regarding the number of people injured or the severity of their conditions. Authorities have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and updates will be issued as more information becomes available.

The area around Water Street was cordoned off shortly after the incident to allow for forensic examination and ensure public safety. Officers remained at the scene into the night to collect evidence and conduct interviews with witnesses. Members of the public have been asked to avoid the vicinity while inquiries are underway.

City officials have expressed concern following the event, emphasizing the importance of maintaining public order during high-profile celebrations. Liverpool FC has not yet issued a public statement regarding the incident. Community leaders and local authorities have encouraged residents to remain calm while the facts are established.

Merseyside Police have appealed for witnesses and urged anyone with video footage or relevant information to come forward. They stated that public cooperation is essential to determine the full circumstances surrounding the event. – By MENA Newswire News Desk.
